Maleny Wood Expo

The Maleny Wood Expo is normally held on the Labour Day long weekend in May, at the Maleny Showgrounds.

Since 1996, the Expo has promoted sustainable use of Maleny’s beautiful native timbers, and its local wood craftsmen.

The Wood Expo is sponsored by Barung Landcare, which is fitting as the Expo was conceived by Ashley Sewell also a passionate Landcare activist.

Along with showcasing the work of talented local and regional artists, the Expo brings historical woodworking methods to life.

There is always an amazing collection of beautifully crafted wooden products on display. And, their creators are there to discuss the pieces and the techniques used in crafting them.

You can attend talks from members of the local indigenous community about the traditional uses of timbers and plants, or join in the interactive workshops on offer.

Children are invited to get involved in woodworking workshops as well as getting their hands dirty in the Junior Landcare paddock. For the adults, take the opportunity to learn from the environmental organisations present.

If you are adding to your own garden, you will find a living souvenir among the native plants available for sale.

Watch as local Timbers are milled live, and purchase a freshly milled slab of Red Cedar or Silky Oak.

View or purchase hand-crafted wooden items, including furniture, toys, puzzles, jewellery, homewares or decorator items.  Choose from quality woodworking tools and machinery along with wood coatings, resins and glues.

There is a wide range of food to enjoy along with guest speakers and live music from local musicians.

All exhibitors at the Maleny Wood Expo work with sustainably harvested or recycled timbers.
